Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in Southeast Asia. Right from lush, green forests to sunny beaches, Thailand is endowed with beauty that is unparallel. While most people visit Thailand for a short holiday, there are many who extend their holiday for months to enjoy the Thai experience thoroughly. Yes, the country is truly fascinating and there are myriads of reasons that would prompt you to visit the place. Here, we present to you top 5 reasons that make Thailand irresistible to people across the world.

Mouth-watering Food

Thailand is famous for many things but Thai food definitely tops the list. The Thai cuisine has gained international recognition; however, every region has its own version. The Thai cuisine beautifully blends salty, sweet, sour, spicy and bitter tastes to create dishes that tantalize the taste buds. Most of the dishes are made with herbs, spices as well as fish sauce and served with rice and egg. The main course dishes are usually fish, beef, chicken or vegetables stir-fried with spices and condiments and served with Thai noodles or sticky rice. Then there are Thai curries that are coconut milk based and usually a bit spicy. Some of the Thai dishes that you should try when in Thailand include Tom Yum Goong (spicy shrimp soup), Som Tum (spicy green papaya salad), Khao Pad (fried rice), Pad Thai (Thai style fried noodles), Pad Krapow Moo Saap (fried basil and pork), Yam Nua (spicy beef salad), etc.

If you have a sweet tooth, Thai desserts are something you would definitely love. Most of them are made with sugar, coconut milk and rice and are really sweet. Also, the fruits available here need a special mention. Apart from the regular fruits like banana, watermelon, pineapple, etc. you can also get hold of exotic fruits like durian, dragon fruit, etc. at the local markets. The best thing about Thai food is that it is available at cheap price. Venture into any street food market and treat your tummy with delicious food. Also, Thai food is healthy. So, while you indulge in a delicious affair with food, you do not have to worry about weight gain which is mandatory during holidays.

Gorgeous Beaches

Thailand is bestowed with almost 8000 tropical islands, so there is really no dearth of beautiful beaches. With a coastline of 2000 miles, you would be spoilt for choices when it comes to visiting beaches in this country. Be it Langkawi, Pattaya, Phuket, Railay or Koh Phi Phi Islands, every place has some of the best beaches in the entire world. You would easily find a beach in Thailand that would match your interests and tastes. If peace and quiet are what you are looking for, there are several secluded beaches where you can enjoy without the crowd that throng on the more touristy spots. On the other hand, there are innumerable beaches that not only offer great view but also opportunities to indulge in water sports, adventure and some amazing beach parties.

Visit Haad Rin Beach for its partying scene; while parties are organized here every night on this beach, the Full Moon Party is the most popular. Lamai Beach, Sunset Beach and White Sand Beach are less crowded and known for their laid-back nature, while Ko Nang Yuan is perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling. Patong Beach is where you should head to if you want to enjoy beach activities like parasailing, jet skiing, etc. Maya Bay at Koh Phi Phi Leh is another beach that would not fail to mesmerize you. With limestone cliffs, blue waters and white sand, this beach is a true beauty.

Great Adventure

Thailand would give you lots of opportunities to rest, relax and do nothing. On the other hand, it would also give you places and situations where you can indulge in a host of adventurous activities. Right from trekking in the dense forests to scuba diving in the blue waters, there is no shortage of adventure you can take part in this country. Whether you are a novice or a professional, the host of adventurous activities available in Thailand would keep you engaged and entertained. River rafting, mountain biking, zipline, scuba diving, snorkelling, sky diving, kiteboarding, rock climbing, wakeboarding, surfing, bungy jumping, etc. are some of the adventure that Thailand offers.

However, if you are not interested in adrenaline pumping adventure but still want to experience something unique, the Elephant Nature Park is the perfect place to visit. You can spend a day or maybe several of them in the company of rescued animals. It is a great way to known about these fuzzy animals and also to take care of them. If you have young children accompanying you, this is a good way to teach them how to treat and care for animals.

Shopping Delight

If you are a shopaholic or just love retail therapy, Thailand is a place where you can shop your heart’s content without burning a hole in your pocket. Right from the shopping malls of Bangkok to the vibrant street shops of Phuket, the experience of shopping in Thailand is interesting. While fabrics and textiles are the most popular, they are not the only things that you can buy in Thailand. Rather, the markets of the country sell everything from handicrafts to furniture. And the best part is that shopping in Thailand is quiet cheap. So, you can buy an entire range of furniture for your home at half the price charged in your own country. A few things that you can buy here are clothes, Thai silk, Thai alcohol, jewellery, Thai furniture, Thai coconut oil, etc. If you want to experience the authentic Thai shopping experience, you must hit the street markets. Moreover, do not forget to hone your bargaining skills. Apart from this, you can also buy branded stuff from the shopping malls and boutiques. All in all, it can be said that shopping in Thailand is a truly rewarding experience.

Friendly People

A country may be known for its beautiful places, amazing architecture or maybe delicious food, but it is the people of the place that really gives it a unique character. Thailand is known as the land of smiles and the people here really vouch for this statement. The Thai are really friendly and wherever you go, be it the streets or the malls or any of the tourist destinations, you would be welcomed with smiles and lot of warmth. They are extremely friendly too. If you have lost your way or want to know where you should go for dinner in the evening, a local would definitely help you. So, apart from sightseeing and adventure, you also get to enjoy the warm hospitality of the Thais. When you see friendly, smiling faces in an unfamiliar place, it surely helps to make your trip a memorable one.

Although these 5 are the top reasons for visiting Thailand, they are not the only ones. Perfect climate, incredible nightlife, deep rooted culture, marvellous temples, etc. are few other reasons that attract tourists from all over the world to Thailand. So, whatever might be your reason to travel to Thailand, you would not fail to fall in love with the country. So, pack your bags, work on your itinerary and get ready for an unforgettable vacation.

  5. Yup! I couldn’t agree more. Thailnad has a little bit of everything and I love how every place has something different. I love Koh Samui and Chiang Mai. I haven’t done Phuket yet so maybe one day we’ll do that. And I always eat so much when I’m there! Mango sticky rice is the best!

  6. I’ve been to Thailand twice and love the country. The food is amazing, the people are sweet and friendly, not all of course! And some of the beaches, the ones not ruined by mass tourism, are still wonderful. A country to see for sure!

Grazie!
